Earth Ethics

Care for the Earth

Throughout my experience, I have found an emerging trend in businesses and personal service toward a more unsustainable “retail” oriented model. Massage clinics and spas especially can be very damaging to the earth – chemical-laden products, disposable sheets and face cradles, and lots and lots of waste. As both a bodyworker and practicing Druid, I strive to move beyond this model in all I do.

My offerings reflect an opportunity to give back to life, and for us to all feel more “alive.” The following are my core principles I work and live by:

1. Care for People

One of the most important things missing in our connections with others is Empathy. To be fully present with a person, and to recognize “what is alive in them” is one of the greatest gifts we can give.

2. Care for the Earth

I use products and practices that are sustainable as much as possible. In my personal life I use only biodegradable cleaning products, eat organic food as much as I can, and I no longer drink bottled water. I regularly bike and use public transportation (I currently do not own a car!). When using stones from Lake Superior for bodywork or healing I honor them by returning them to the lake each Fall, where I then find new “Stone Helpers.”

3. Understand the Whole Person – Body, Mind, and Spirit.

We are all so much more than our stresses, our clinical diagnoses (which you will never get from me), the occupations we choose, the judgments and labels placed upon us, or merely the physical symptoms we exhibit. Healing takes place at all levels. My intention is to create a space where Body, Mind, and Spirit are integrated into the whole, and the Whole Person is honored.

4. Healing and Transformation is allowed – Not forced.

Whether I do Reiki, Acupressure, Druid Readings, or the sharing of my voice, my intent is to have a quality of presence that allows the mind-body-spirit to naturally shift or transform. I’m simply holding a space, peacefully and gently. I don’t believe in “Fast Food” Druidry, Healing, or Transformation either, and believe that a greater possibility for healing exists when we as human beings are more at peace, more connected, and more nurtured.

5. All Paths are Honored

Just as no two mountains or rivers are alike – No two paths or experiences are identical. Your path is “your path” and it is the most important guiding light in your life. I also believe that through this ideal, we are all responsible for our own intentions and futures along this path. Nothing is set in stone, and change and transformation begin with US – taking the first steps on our own personal journeys.

6. Share in Abundance

Sometimes I work for pay, and sometimes I offer my skills and talents freely. At the same time, none of us should be tied to feelings of “fear” or “scarcity” when it comes to charging money or earning a living in our chosen vocation. I charge money for much of the work I do, so that I have the ability to extend and sustain my reach and message longer, more fully, and to ever broadening audiences. I must care for myself and my needs so that I am able to give to others. That said, I often give back to Druidry organizations, and to causes which I am passionate. Sharing in our abundance is so very important in the world today. I also find ways to provide a variety of offerings at a variety of prices, and to sometimes give offerings of value completely free – as empowering and inspiring gifts to the Universe!

Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Scott Schumacher
