Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese form of hands-on energy healing whereupon ki, or Universal Life Force Energy (the same as chi, prana, or even ‘the force’ from Star Wars) is channeled through the hands of a practitioner to oneself and to others.

While the recipient is fully clothed and resting on a massage table, a Reiki Practitioners’ hands are lightly placed on or above energy centers of the body which correspond to Chakras, organ systems, or even energy flow channels such as meridian pathways.

Many who receive a Reiki treatment report an overall sense of deep relaxation and well-being, and that a kind of “glowing radiance” is felt on those areas of the body where a practitioner’s hands are resting. Others claim to receive deep emotional and spiritual healing from a Reiki session. Some even describe Reiki as “a massage from the inside out” which brings about a more connected, peaceful state of being.

Reiki works primarily through the concept of the entrainment (or the ‘coming together’) of energy fields, pulses, breath, and mental-emotional states of both the giver and the receiver of Reiki. As the Reiki Practitioner learns to control her/his breath and the channeling of Ki through a meditative state, the effect is an equalizing transfer of energy to the person receiving Reiki.

While Reiki can be spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from a Universal Source, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their spiritual practice rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

Reiki encourages us to slow down and to be more in touch with our inner and outer being, and the balance and interplay between our mind, body, and spirit. We can become “gentler” with ourselves, and celebrate the fact that we are “whole beings” – ever imperfect, yet at the same time – PERFECT as we are.

The five principles of Reiki:

Just for Today, I will not Anger.
Just for Today, I will not Worry.
Just for Today, I will do my work Honestly and with Integrity.
Just for Today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for Today, I will give thanks and be kind to every living thing.
